Gossip Girl Recap - The Thin Line Between Chuck and Nate(Season 1 Episode 13)

One of Gossip Girl's spies happened to witness someone buying a pregnancy test. Who? Why none other than Serena van der Woodsen. News spreads fast and before long the status of everyone's favorite It Girl is on everyone's mind... and lips.

But the most shocked of all, of course, is Dan Humphrey, Serena's latest paramour. Thankfully, old Dan is a stand up guy and he promises his girlfriend that he will stand by her, no matter what she chooses to do. Daddy Rufus is none too thrilled, and he tells his son so, reminding him that being a teen father isn't exactly what he'd hoped for his son. Dartmouth, yes. Daddy, no.

Much to Dan's relief, Serena tells him she's not pregnant. She's not even the one the test was meant for. Surprise, surprise... turns out pristine, ex-virgin Blair Waldorf is actually the one in trouble. But Blair, never one to face reality, isn't too ready to admit it, even to Serena who knows the truth. Serena reminds her BFF that Blair herself noticed her late period. She tries to hand her the test she bought but the stubborn girl won't take it.

Later, during a cozy dinner, Dan hints that Serena's attention isn't exactly on their date. Serena finally confesses to him the latest drama: Blair, Chuck and a baby on the way. Dan tells her that even though it is Chuck Bass, the guy did deserve to know about Blair's situation. Meanwhile, someone is eavesdropping in the dark: Jenny.

The next morning Serena informed Chuck about Blair's trouble. Chuck told Serena he used a condom and he couldn't know if Nate did. What? Serena couldn't believe Blair had sex with Nate too. Chuck assured her that was the bitter truth. Looks like little miss Virgin Queen looks a little less pristine.

But for Blair, things seem to be looking up. She finally took the plunge and took the test. And much to her - and Serena's -joy, the test was negative.

At school, Chuck confronts Blair, threatening to tell Nate about their affair. But Blair seems pretty sure Chuck won't say anything. If he wanted to inform Nate about it, he could have told him when the two of them were in Monaco. The fact is, Blair tells him triumphantly, he doesn't want Nate to know anymore than she does. He values his friendship with Nate far too much to risk compromising it. "Game over," claims Blair.

Unfortunately, Chuck isn't ready to resign. "The game is over when I say it is over", is Chuck's reply. Blair waves the threat off and walks away. A livid Chuck sends a text to Gossip Girl: "S not pregnant, covering for Blair. Same Blair whose sheets were rumpled by two guys in one week."

Once again, the word spreads fast. Nate happens to be standing next to Jenny when he learned the news. Nate is irate, and frantic with worry for his girlfriend, who he is sure is innocent. Jenny's frank skepticism is obvious though and Nate asks her if she knows something. Jenny hesitates but remembers Blair's poor treatment of her on the steps of The Met. Too bad Blair dissed her - maybe she might have kept her secret. But she doesn't. She tells a stunned Nate everything she heard Serena tell Dan.

A furious Nate seeks out Chuck, punching him out for sleeping with his girlfriend. Chuck tells him that Blair needed someone and he happened to be there. Nate isn't moved and tells Chuck (loudly) that they are through. Their friendship is done. For good.

A heartbroken Blair stops by to see Nate to try and explain. Her pleas fall on deaf ears, as he informs her that he already knows all about Chuck. She wants to know who told, and he admits it was Jenny, but insists that Blair leave the freshman girl alone - this is not Jenny's fault. Blair ignores that, trying to explain but Nate is pretty clear: they are done.

When Blair returns home, Serena arrives, hoping to lend some TLC to her BFF. But Blair is furious and needs an outlet. She confronts her friend, wanting to know why she told Jenny about her personal life. Serena assured her that she never told Jenny anything. But Blair is unrelenting and Serena finally admits that she told Dan. Jenny must have gotten it from him. Blair is livid. She can't believe Serena would compromise her reputation like this. Its ok for Serena van der Woodsen to get wasted, go slumming, and be wild, but Blair is a Waldorf. She's held to a higher standard and her fall from grace will be harder.

But now it's Serena's turn to get angry. She's furious that Blair has insulted her friends, her family and herself and she's had enough. "You can take your Waldorf name and weather the storm all alone." Serena storms out, leaving Blair to handle it alone.

Well, her friendship with Serena might be over, but Blair has a lot of other friends, hasn't she? The girls are lunching on the steps of the Met, as usual. But when Jenny arrives, Blair's words aren't kind. To her utter shock, her friends stand by Jenny, telling Blair that considering her own messy affairs, she's not in any position to dictate others. "Consider yourself dethroned, Queen B." They all walk away, with the exception of Jenny who reminds tentatively behind. Blair tells Jenny that not only was it very unlikely she would ever forgive her for revealing her indiscretions with Chuck to Nate, but she also will ruin her if she walks away from her now. Jenny's eyes are cold as she stares into her rival's. "And how are you going to do that?" In that moment, Blair realizes Little J. was right. Without her friends, Blair has zero power.

Defeated and alone, Blair goes to see Chuck, knowing she has no one else. The girl smiles awkwardly and tells him he won: he had officially ruined every relationship in her life. She's his for the taking. Chuck looks at her disgustedly. He wanted her when she was pure and untouched. Now she is used and dirty. He doesn't want her now and he doubts anyone would. His words are filled with acid, and Blair has had enough.

Blair storms out and runs home, where she begs Eleanor to send her away... anywhere. A semester in France with Harold, her father. Immediately. Anything to get away from the vicious scandal that is destroying her.

Meanwhile, major social changes are on the horizon. With Blair out of the picture, Jenny's position on the inner circle ladder increases. Turns out there is a new newbie, Elise, who is desperate for acceptance. Jenny's new friends urge her to take advantage of the new girl, who will do anything to gain favor. Jenny is a little uncomfortable about using the new girl, but acquiesces. Elise is thrilled to return Jenny's books to the library for her and as they leave Jenny gives her a little wave, Blair Waldorf style. Could it be that Little J is moving into Blair's recently vacated top spot?

Meanwhile, Serena confronts Dan about Blair's revealed secret. Dan assures her that he didn't say anything to anyone. He could never do something like that. Serena asks him how she can know that for sure. Dan takes a deep breath and tells her why: because he loves her. Serena is unprepared for that and all she can say is "Okay". Dan can't believe this is her answer and walk quickly away.

Later, Serena catches up with Dan and asks him why he loves her. After Dan's explanation, Serena finally tells him she love him too. But she can't stay with him right now. There is someone she needs to talk to. Blair.

But Waldorf Jr. is just about to head to JFK airport via helicopter. Serena arrives just in time to stop Blair from boarding the chopper. Serena begs her BFF not to leave. She reminds her how hurt Blair was when Serena took off without a word and pleads with her not to do the same. She has to stay and rebuild her name. They will fight together and they will work things out together. The reunited friends hug. And it seems like our beloved Waldorf decides to go home in the end. Thank God... Upper East Side wouldn't be the same without her.

"One good scandal deserves another. Wonder who is going down next".
